My Healing Journy
In the beginning of 2001, I went in to see if I was a candidate for lasik eye surgery and found out that I had a detached retina, which meant there was a possibility that I could be blind. This is something I feared for most of my life, given how bad my vision has always been. I felt like this was the worst thing that could happen to me. This led to surgery with a number of doctors appointments and physicals. I lost much of my peripheral vision in one eye, but I did not go blind.
Within six weeks of that first diagnosis, I found out that I had breast cancer. My previous thought that becoming blind was “the worst thing that could happen” was shattered as I faced my own mortality. The doctors found 2 very small tumors, and recommended a mastectomy with reconstructive surgery. Thankfully I have a supportive family. My husband accompanied me to my appointments and knowing me as he does, he helped me make decisions, even when I was not thinking clearly. My 12 year old and 8 year old daughters were supported by their grandparents who ensured they were shielded from my fear and pain. I recovered without having to go through radiation or chemotherapy. It had been an intense ride but we had made it through the worst of it! Or so we thought…
That fall the USA was thrown into a new era by the devastation of 9/11. Like many in the high tech world, I was laid off from my very high paying job. I didn’t really like the work I was doing in the computer industry, but I was making good money and we were able to do a lot of things because of it. If I had not received the “gift” of a layoff, I might still be working at some high tech job that I really didn’t like.
After three major life crises in less than a year, I was, finally, ready to listen to the message that the universe was sending me. I was ready to make a change.
I went to a Healing Touch class and after finishing the first class I felt that I had found my calling. Way back in 1982, I graduated from massage school with the intention of doing massage part time. However, at that time massage therapy was not really understood, and the computer industry was growing rapidly. So I set aside my passion for healing and stayed in my “safe” high tech job.
I was given a chance to start anew and I choose to follow a path toward spreading healing and relaxation.
